Are you a Grade 11 or 12 student looking for a unique part time work experience this summer?

Are you interested in creating and editing videos?

Do you love talking with the seniors in your life?  Would you be excited to learn about their lives and experiences?  

Are you interested in the history of Pitt Meadows?  

Pitt Meadows United Church is looking for students to be part of a video history project.  We need some curious, engaging, and enthusiastic young people to be interviewers of seniors and other church members about their memories, life experiences and the stories they have to tell.  Each video-interview will be recorded and edited to make up a searchable video library.  Interviews will be conducted through Zoom, or in-person with safe physical distancing.  The team will also produce a project findings booklet.  History Project Interviewers will be paid $20 per hour based on number of completed interviews.  You could be part of the team!

Responsibilities include:

  • Working in a team to plan interviews, contact interviewees and arrange interviews
  • Conducting interviews in person or online
  • Questioning interviewees to enable them to tell their stories in detail and in summary; seek stories and incidents that explore meaning and illustrate history
  • Recording interviews using Zoom software or in person on your own smart phone
  • Doing basic editing of the recorded interviews to focus the findings
  • Working in a team to gather and make an index of completed interviews and report on findings of note
  • Contribute stories, conclusions, and video clips to the final booklet of the project findings

Ideal candidates:

  • Able to provide a Police Records Check
  • Have experience in communicating with older adults
  • Have experience or knowledge of video editing
  • Able to use Zoom software
  • Able to talk with older adults with empathy and patience 
  • Able to follow directions, complete tasks on time, and work independently and in a team
  • Enthusiastic, inquisitive, persistent, and energetic
  • Reliable, ethical, and responsible
  • May have knowledge and experience within a faith-based tradition

  • Pre-Authorized Remittance (PAR): A convenient way to give, where your offering is automatically deducted from your bank account on the 20th of each month. Note – PAR can be cancelled at any time.
  • And a new option, E-Transfer: to donations@pmunitedchurch.com. If you choose this option, please add Pitt Meadows United Church to your e-transfer contact list, using donations@pmunitedchurch.com as the email contact. Your envelope number should go on the message line, along with any other information you want to provide.

  • Due to the public health crisis, all activities and communications of Pitt Meadows United Church will now be conducted safely through telephone, email, this website, and through online and social media applications such as Face Book and Zoom.

  • Hearts Ablaze Lenten Series continues on Zoom at 5 pm each Thursday
  • Monday to Thursday: Daily Zoom Prayer at noon and 8 pm
  • Our minister Rev. Bethan Theunissen will maintian virtual office hours Monday through Thursday from 11:30 am until 2.30 pm – join the meeting on Zoom.  Email Bethan <Bethan.theunissen@gmail.com> for a specific appointment, or anyone can stop by. These are private conversations so there is a waiting room if there is someone ahead of you.  If you are on the waiting list because you have joined the meeting, you will be able to talk to Bethan when the conversation with the person before you is done.

Upcoming Educational Events:

  • In-person programs are now on hold until further notice, except as mentioned above.  We are considering more virtual programs to come, please stay tuned!
  • Naramata Centre is still planning summer programs for children, teens, adults, elders in four areas: singing and music, the arts, spiritual nurture, and health and wellbeing.  Program information and registration can be found at: https://www.naramatacentresociety.org/programs.  Summer weeks registration is now open!

Besides the friendly folks, the peaceful and beautiful environment, the beach, the lovely Chapel, and the warm summer sun, Naramata offers weekly programs including such activities as:

  • spiritual nurture
  • music and singing
  • arts and crafts
  • yoga, tai chi
  • children’s programs.
