Pitt Meadows United Church
Our understanding of our faith has evolved throughout history and is evolving still… Like most open-minded Christians, we believe that how we act is as or more important than what we believe. (Matthew 7:22-24)
Our Faith
A New Creed
A New Creed is a shorter, well-loved affirmation of faith used widely in our worship (1968; rev. 1980, 1995).
We are not alone,
we live in God’s world.
We believe in God:
who has created and is creating,
who has come in Jesus,
the Word made flesh,
to reconcile and make new,
who works in us and others
by the Spirit.
We trust in God.
We are called to be the Church:
to celebrate God’s presence,
to live with respect in Creation,
to love and serve others,
to seek justice and resist evil,
to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen,
our judge and our hope.
In life, in death, in life beyond death,
God is with us.
We are not alone.
Thanks be to God.
In the last decade, many voices in the United Church thought it was time to formulate a new statement of our core beliefs in contemporary language. This is no easy task, given the diversity of understandings within our denomination. The result, A Song of Faith, however, has met with almost universal acclaim…
A Song of Faith, adopted in 2006, seeks to provide a verbal picture of what The United Church of Canada understands its faith to be in the historical, political, social, and theological context of the early 21st century. It is also a means of ongoing reflection and an invitation for the church to live out its convictions in relation to the world in which we live. Complete Copy of the Song of Faith
The 20 Articles of Doctrine; A Statement of Faith, 1940; A New Creed; and A Song of Faith are recognized as standards subordinate to the primacy of scripture in the doctrine section of the Basis of Union. (See The Manual, pages 11-28
